The 49er Inn & Suites renovation transformed one of Jackson Hole's iconic hospitality landmarks into a cohesive, contemporary resort while preserving the property's rich history and western character. Originally developed through five separate additions over several decades, the hotel presented the challenge of unifying multiple buildings into a seamless guest experience. Ward Blake Architects reimagined the property through thoughtful architectural renovations, new guest amenities, and a strong design narrative inspired by Jackson Hole's historic mining heritage.

The renovation established a unified architectural identity across the entire campus by connecting previously independent structures through cohesive materials, detailing, and circulation. A new main lobby, expanded breakfast area, and centrally located gathering spaces create a welcoming arrival experience while improving the overall functionality and flow of the resort.

A key component of the master plan was strengthening the hotel's relationship with downtown Jackson. The redesign establishes a more defined street presence along Pearl Avenue, creating an active pedestrian edge that enhances the urban streetscape while reinforcing the property's identity as a premier destination in the heart of Jackson Hole.

One of the project's most distinctive features is the elevated second-floor outdoor swimming pool, strategically positioned to preserve valuable site area while taking advantage of panoramic views toward Snow King Mountain. This innovative design solution transforms the pool into both a signature guest amenity and a memorable outdoor gathering space, enhancing the resort experience while maximizing the efficiency of the site.

Drawing inspiration from the property's original mining theme, the architecture celebrates Jackson Hole's rugged history through a contemporary interpretation of industrial materials and western craftsmanship. Weathering steel, stained cedar siding, exposed structural steel, and reclaimed wood evoke the textures and authenticity of historic mining structures while creating a modern mountain aesthetic that feels both timeless and distinctly regional.

Inside, the interiors continue this narrative through the thoughtful use of reclaimed lumber, polished concrete floors, exposed steel framing, and warm cedar ceilings. Industrial-inspired lighting fixtures are balanced with expansive glass walls and natural materials, creating spaces that feel simultaneously refined, comfortable, and connected to Jackson Hole's mountain character.

The arrival experience is further enhanced through the use of dramatic glulam timber trusses, which establish a memorable architectural focal point while celebrating the craftsmanship and structural honesty that define western mountain architecture.
