Aman 21 is a custom luxury residence within the exclusive Amangani Villas community in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the architecture is shaped by the natural character of the site rather than imposed upon it. Designed to embrace the challenges and opportunities of a dramatic mountainside landscape, the home transforms steep topography and a rugged ravine into defining architectural features, creating a residence that is both intimately connected to its surroundings and uniquely expressive.

Located on a steeply sloping homesite, Aman 21 presented a series of complex design opportunities. A natural rock-lined ravine crossing the property became the organizing element of the architectural composition rather than an obstacle to overcome. Instead of following the orientation of neighboring villas, the residence was intentionally positioned at a 90-degree angle, aligning the home directly with the ravine to celebrate this distinctive landscape feature and create a stronger relationship between architecture and site.

This thoughtful site planning allows every major living space to engage with the surrounding landscape through carefully framed views of the ravine, the Snake River Valley, and the distant Teton Range. Expansive walls of glass dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, inviting natural light deep into the residence while immersing occupants in the beauty of Jackson Hole's changing seasons.

The steep topography was similarly embraced as an opportunity to enhance the home's spatial experience. By stepping the residence naturally into the hillside, Ward Blake Architects created a series of interconnected living spaces that follow the land's contours while minimizing disturbance to the existing terrain. This sensitive integration preserves the natural landscape while reducing the home's visual impact within the Amangani community.

One of the home's defining features is a secluded private courtyard, nestled against the uphill side of the residence. Protected by the surrounding landscape, this intimate outdoor space creates a tranquil retreat that contrasts with the expansive mountain vistas beyond. The courtyard introduces natural light and fresh air into the heart of the home while offering residents a sheltered environment for quiet reflection, outdoor dining, and year-round enjoyment.

The residence is composed of a carefully balanced palette of natural stone, wood, steel, and expansive glazing, reflecting the colors and textures of the surrounding mountain environment. These authentic materials transition seamlessly between interior and exterior spaces, reinforcing the home's connection to its landscape while creating an atmosphere of understated luxury and timeless mountain elegance.

Inside, open living areas are organized to maximize views while maintaining a warm, human-scaled environment. Every room is carefully positioned to capture a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape, allowing the architecture to frame nature as an ever-changing work of art. Custom millwork, refined detailing, and thoughtfully integrated architectural elements contribute to a cohesive interior where craftsmanship and simplicity define the living experience.

Outdoor terraces and gathering spaces extend naturally from the home's interior, encouraging effortless indoor-outdoor living and creating multiple opportunities to experience the surrounding landscape. Whether overlooking the dramatic ravine or enjoying the privacy of the central courtyard, every exterior space reinforces the residence's deep connection to its extraordinary setting.

Sustainability is fundamental to the home's design. By working with the existing topography, minimizing site disturbance, and incorporating durable natural materials and environmentally responsive design strategies, Aman 21 demonstrates how luxury architecture can exist in harmony with sensitive mountain environments while preserving the character of the land for future generations.

Aman 21 reflects Ward Blake Architects' philosophy of creating architecture that grows from its site rather than simply occupying it. Through innovative site-responsive planning, timeless contemporary mountain design, exceptional craftsmanship, and a profound respect for the natural landscape, the residence offers a sophisticated retreat that captures the serenity, beauty, and spirit of the Amangani community.
