The Amangani Villas represent the pinnacle of luxury mountain living, combining world-class architecture with the privacy of custom home ownership and the exceptional amenities of the renowned Amangani Resort. Designed by Ward Blake Architects, seven of the resort's exclusive residences are thoughtfully integrated into a spectacular 54-acre mountainside overlooking Jackson Hole, offering panoramic views of the Teton Range, Snake River Valley, and surrounding Wyoming wilderness.
Named "Amangani," meaning "peaceful home" in the Shoshone language, the community was envisioned as a seamless extension of the resort experience, where architecture, landscape, and luxury hospitality exist in perfect harmony. The master-planned development includes 22 homesites, each carefully positioned to maximize privacy, preserve open space, and celebrate the extraordinary natural beauty of its setting.
Designing multiple neighboring villas required a highly coordinated approach that balanced expansive views with respect for adjacent residences. Ward Blake Architects approached the project as a three-dimensional site-planning exercise, carefully sculpting each home into the sloping terrain. By embedding portions of the residences into the hillside, matching rooflines to the site's natural contours, and incorporating living sod roofs, the architecture minimizes its visual impact while preserving unobstructed sightlines across the community.
The result is a collection of luxury residences that appear to emerge naturally from the mountainside. Native grasses flowing across the green roofs blur the distinction between architecture and landscape, while dramatically angled roof forms echo the rugged peaks of the surrounding Tetons. This thoughtful integration allows the majority of the butte to remain as shared open space, reinforcing the sense of tranquility and preserving the character of the site for future generations.
Each villa was individually tailored to reflect the lifestyle and preferences of its owner while remaining consistent with the architectural vision established by the Amangani community. Working within carefully developed design guidelines governing scale, materials, and composition, Ward Blake Architects created a series of unique custom residences that maintain a cohesive identity while expressing the individuality of each home.
The architecture celebrates the surrounding mountain environment through a timeless palette of natural stone, wood, glass, and native landscape materials. Expansive walls of glazing frame breathtaking views while filling interiors with natural light and strengthening the connection between indoor and outdoor living. Spacious terraces, private outdoor gathering areas, and carefully oriented living spaces allow residents to experience Jackson Hole's dramatic seasonal beauty from every room.
Sustainability and environmental stewardship are fundamental to the design. The integration of green roofs, careful site planning, and minimal disturbance to the natural terrain reduce the development's visual footprint while enhancing energy performance and stormwater management. By working with the landscape rather than against it, the villas demonstrate how luxury architecture can coexist harmoniously with sensitive mountain environments.
As residents of the Amangani community, homeowners enjoy the privacy of an exclusive mountain retreat together with access to the exceptional amenities and personalized services of one of the world's premier luxury resorts. This unique combination of private ownership and resort hospitality creates an unparalleled residential experience in Jackson Hole.
The Amangani Villas exemplify Ward Blake Architects' philosophy of creating architecture that is deeply rooted in its landscape while elevating the experience of those who inhabit it. Through thoughtful site integration, timeless materials, sustainable design strategies, and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, the project creates an extraordinary collection of luxury mountain residences that define contemporary resort living in the American West.
