Set within a natural clearing in an expansive aspen grove in northwestern Wyoming, the Aspen Grove Residence is a custom mountain home shaped by its unique location between the Teton Range and the Snake River. Designed by Ward + Blake Architects, the residence responds to a sensitive low-lying site through thoughtful orientation, wetland-conscious planning, and a refined balance of contemporary architecture and regional materials.

Because the property is defined by jurisdictional wetlands, water became an integral part of the site's design and architectural experience. Existing watercourses and carefully integrated water features strengthen the home's connection to its natural surroundings while allowing the landscape to remain a defining element of the residence.

The home is organized along clear north-south and east-west axes to maximize mountain views, natural daylight, and favorable southern exposure. A rhythmic structural system of custom columns and trusses reinforces this orientation, creating an architectural framework that responds directly to the site's geometry and surrounding landscape.

The exterior material palette creates a deliberate dialogue between modern mountain architecture and traditional Western materials. Contemporary building forms are softened by reclaimed wood siding and naturally weathering Corten steel roofing, allowing the residence to develop a rich patina and blend gracefully with the surrounding aspen forest.

Inside, a restrained palette of laminated bamboo, polished concrete, and Russian birch millwork introduces warmth, texture, and contemporary refinement. Expansive glazing and carefully framed openings bring natural light and views deep into the home, strengthening the relationship between interior living spaces, wetlands, water, and the surrounding landscape.
