Nestled within the mature forests of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the Granite Ridge Residence is a thoughtfully designed luxury mountain home that celebrates its natural surroundings through timeless architecture, sustainable design, and an enduring connection to the landscape. Designed by Ward + Blake Architects, this custom residence demonstrates how contemporary mountain architecture can enhance—not compete with—the beauty of its setting.
Positioned carefully among towering lodgepole pines, aspens, and native vegetation, the home follows the natural contours of the site while minimizing environmental disturbance. The architecture embraces Ward + Blake Architects’ philosophy that every home should respond directly to its place, resulting in a residence that feels as though it has always belonged within the forest.
Natural materials define the architectural character of the home. Warm western cedar siding, exposed timber columns, handcrafted Douglas fir beams, native stone, board-formed concrete, and steel detailing create a refined mountain-modern aesthetic rooted in the traditions of the American West. Extensive roof overhangs provide shelter from Wyoming’s changing climate while adding depth, rhythm, and shadow to the exterior elevations.
The home’s organization emphasizes biophilic design, strengthening the relationship between occupants and nature. Floor-to-ceiling windows, expansive sliding glass doors, and generous outdoor living spaces flood the interiors with natural daylight while framing views of the surrounding forest. Covered terraces, elevated balconies, and landscaped courtyards encourage year-round indoor-outdoor living, allowing every room to maintain a visual connection to the landscape.
Inside, soaring vaulted ceilings, exposed timber trusses, and carefully detailed structural steel create dramatic yet welcoming living spaces. A central stone fireplace anchors the great room, while warm wood finishes, artisan craftsmanship, and natural materials establish a sense of comfort, permanence, and understated luxury. Every architectural detail—from the rhythm of the timber beams to the carefully proportioned hallways—creates moments of light, texture, and spatial discovery.
Designed for both everyday family life and entertaining, the residence features an open-concept great room, spacious dining area, and a chef’s kitchen with dual islands, custom cabinetry, and seamless access to outdoor gathering spaces. The thoughtful floor plan balances expansive public areas with private bedroom suites, creating a home that functions equally well for intimate living and larger gatherings.
Throughout the residence, Ward + Blake Architects maximize natural light through strategic building orientation, clerestory glazing, and carefully framed window openings that capture changing seasonal conditions.
