Parks residence

Nestled within mature aspen groves and alpine forest in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the Parks Residence is a custom luxury mountain home that demonstrates Ward + Blake Architects’ expertise in site-specific residential architecture, mountain contemporary design, and environmentally responsive planning. Designed to preserve the natural beauty of its wooded hillside setting, the residence blends timeless craftsmanship, natural materials, and modern mountain living into a home that feels inseparable from the surrounding landscape.

From the earliest stages of design, the project was guided by a commitment to working with the land rather than reshaping it. Carefully positioned among existing pine and aspen trees, the residence minimizes site disturbance while maximizing privacy, natural daylight, and sweeping views of the Teton Range. The home’s composition follows the contours of the hillside, allowing the architecture to settle naturally into the terrain while strengthening the connection between indoor and outdoor living.

The architectural expression reflects a contemporary interpretation of traditional Western mountain architecture. Low-profile rooflines, cedar shake roofing, reclaimed timber siding, native stone walls, and exposed structural steel create a refined material palette that echoes the textures and colors of the surrounding Wyoming landscape. Every exterior material was selected for its durability, authenticity, and ability to weather gracefully over time.

Outdoor living is an integral part of the home’s design. Covered terraces, elevated decks, and bridge-like walkways extend the living spaces into the forest, creating a seamless relationship between architecture and nature. These carefully choreographed outdoor rooms provide year-round opportunities to experience the changing seasons while preserving uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains and woodlands.

Inside, soaring vaulted ceilings supported by exposed timber-and-steel trusses create dramatic gathering spaces filled with natural light. Expansive walls of glass, clerestory windows, and strategically positioned skylights introduce daylight throughout the residence while framing ever-changing views of the surrounding forest and distant Tetons. The result is an interior environment that feels open, warm, and continually connected to its natural setting.

A sculptural custom steel staircase with handcrafted wood treads serves as both a functional circulation element and a defining architectural feature, connecting multiple levels of the home with elegance and precision. Throughout the residence, artisan millwork, natural stone, reclaimed wood, and carefully detailed finishes reinforce the home’s commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and enduring quality.

The open-concept great room, dining area, and chef’s kitchen are designed to support both everyday family living and large-scale entertaining. Anchored by a monumental stone fireplace, these spaces balance intimacy with openness while maintaining visual connections to the surrounding landscape through expansive glazing and thoughtfully framed views.

The Parks Residence exemplifies Ward + Blake Architects’ philosophy that exceptional luxury residential architecture should emerge naturally from its setting. Through thoughtful site planning, sustainable design principles, authentic materials, and meticulous craftsmanship, the home creates a timeless mountain retreat that reflects both the character of Jackson Hole and the lifestyle of its owners.
