Designed to complement the adjoining fire station while establishing its own civic presence, the TCJH Fire Administration Building provides a functional and welcoming headquarters for fire department operations in Jackson, Wyoming. The building brings together administrative offices, meeting and training spaces, and a publicly accessible library within an efficient design rooted in the architectural character of historic Jackson Hole.

Along the street-facing elevation, horizontal bands of stone and wood siding create a pedestrian-scaled façade that responds to the surrounding downtown context. The stone recalls materials found in historic Jackson landmarks, while the wood siding and contemporary interpretation of a traditional Western storefront help integrate the building into the existing city block. This balance of regional materials and modern detailing gives the project a distinct identity while respecting the vernacular architecture of Jackson Hole.

Protruding steel canopies and exposed hardware draw inspiration from the functional equipment and mechanical character of fire apparatus. These industrial elements provide shade and weather protection while creating a more inviting street-level experience for staff, visitors, and the public.

The building’s compact organization maximizes functionality and natural daylight. Strategic site development allows the lower level to function as a daylit basement, bringing natural light into workspaces that might otherwise have been located entirely below grade. A simple, box-like building form and shed roof contribute to an efficient and cost-conscious design, while a lowered central roof creates a clearly defined entrance and expresses the building’s primary circulation core.

The TCJH Fire Administration Building reflects Ward Blake Architects’ approach to civic and public architecture, combining functional planning, regional materiality, contextual design, and thoughtful daylighting. The result is an efficient municipal building that supports the operational needs of the fire department while contributing to the architectural character and public realm of Jackson, Wyoming.
