Set within an expansive grass-covered landscape surrounded by panoramic views of the Teton and Gros Ventre mountain ranges, the Tennican Residence is a custom mountain home designed to create a seamless dialogue between architecture and nature. Ward + Blake Architects organized the residence around carefully selected view corridors, using a series of rectilinear pavilions and transparent glazed passageways to connect interior spaces directly to the surrounding landscape.

The home's low-profile composition responds to the horizontality of the open site. Low-slung gable roofs and a partially submerged, sod-roofed garage reduce the residence's visual impact, allowing the architecture to remain secondary to the expansive Wyoming setting. Each pavilion is carefully aligned with specific landscape features and mountain views, creating an ever-changing connection to place as occupants move through the home.

Transparency is central to the architectural experience. Expansive walls of glass alternate with grounded volumes of wood, steel, and stone, balancing openness with a sense of permanence and shelter. Glazed corridors create visual connections between the home's individual pavilions while framing the landscape as an integral part of the interior experience.

The relationship between indoor and outdoor living is further reinforced through material continuity. Limestone flooring extends seamlessly from interior living spaces onto exterior terraces, while low-pitched roof forms quietly define sheltered gathering areas without interrupting the surrounding views. These thoughtful transitions blur the boundaries between architecture and landscape and encourage a direct connection to the outdoors.

The Tennican Residence exemplifies Ward + Blake Architects' expertise in luxury residential architecture, site-specific custom home design, contemporary mountain architecture, and indoor-outdoor living.
